Photographing the Distance: Mona Khazindar In Dialogue with Matilde Marin

This opening program begins with an artist-led tour of Photographing the Distance, offering
audiences an intimate encounter with Matilde Marin’s visual language and artistic practice.
Marin is an Argentine contemporary artist whose multidisciplinary work spans printmaking,
photography, video and installation. Her practice often reflects on landscape, travel,
distance, memory and the transformation of natural environments, including works such
as Undetermined Landscapes, Altered Landscapes, Pharus Project, and When I Sight the
Blue Smoke of Ithaca.

Following the tour, Marin will be in conversation with Mona Khazindar, Saudi curator,
historian, and former Director General of the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris. Khazindar
has curated international exhibitions for over three decades, with a focus on modern and
contemporary art from the Arab world, photography and cross-cultural representation. Her
curatorial background makes her a strong interlocutor for exploring Marin’s exhibition in
relation to image-making, place, travel, visual memory and the Red Sea as a space of
distance and connection.
