My Eco Lighthouse
The Red Sea Museum will host an inclusive crafting workshop for deaf children, delivered
with sign language support. Children will create simple nautical lighthouses using recycled
and eco-friendly materials, such as paper cups, cardboard, reused packaging, fabric
scraps and flameless candles. The workshop introduces children to the role of lighthouses
in guiding sailors and supporting maritime navigation, while encouraging them to think
about how everyday materials can be reused creatively instead of being wasted.
Visual examples of lighthouses and coastal navigation in Jeddah and the Red Sea will be
introduced to help children connect their craft to familiar local maritime landmarks and
stories.Through this hands-on activity, children will explore the sea, boats, light signals and
coastal journeys using visual storytelling, step-by-step demonstrations, and sign language
interaction.
The activity also supports the RSM Green Museum Initiative by embedding green practices
into children’s learning: reducing waste, reusing materials, and creating awareness around
protecting the environment.
Materials: Recycled paper cups, visual examples of lighthouses, cardboard, reused
packaging, fabric scraps, colored paper, glue, scissors, markers, flameless candles and
simple decorative materials.
Duration: 2 hours
Facilitator: Educator (TBD), supported by a certified sign language interpreter
